League Action
Sarnia Produce vs SarCor Rebar
July 9, 2009
Sarnia Produce returned to league play
facing SarCor Rebar in Thursday night action
at Lambton College field. Both teams came
out strong looking for the first score but
the defence ruled on both ends. Not many
scoring chances evolved however play became
pretty intense as the game progressed.
Referee Mark Renault kept the action calm
and controlled issuing a few yellow cards.
The Azzurri were first to strike as in the
40th minute midfielder Peter Tavabis turned
on a ball and ripped in hard in the top left
corner of the SarCor net. Sarnia Produce led
1 - 0 at the half.
The second half saw a more determined SarCor
team who came out pressing for the
equalizer. They were rewarded in the 60th
min with a defensive error on the Produce
sweeper which led to the
SarCor striker placing the ball by Sarnia
goalie Olindo DeSena Jr. The Azzurri then
regrouped and began to advance sending their
midfielders up to attack. It seemed to work
as veteran Theo Tsaprailis received the ball
on the fly and calmly dribbled it past the
SarCor defender and goalie Mario DiCocco to
fire it in the open net. That's all that was
needed as the Sarnia Produce defence took
over limiting any chances by SarCor to
preserve the 2 - 1 win!
