Sarnia Produce vs. SarCor
Rebar -
Semi-Final Play-Offs
After a long lay-off,
Sarnia Produce returned to
action facing SarCar Rebar
in the Semi-finals of the
play-offs.
SarCor striker Vitor DaSilva
opened the scoring early on
a well placed free kick from
the 20 yard marker. In the
25th min. of play Produce
forward Dino DeCarolis was
called for hand ball in the
penalty area awarding SarCor
with the penalty kick.
Again it was Vitor DaSilva
placing the shot in the
bottom left hand corner of
the goal, just under the
reach of keeper Olindo
DeSena Jr. . SarCor took the
early 2 goal lead looking
very poised and confident.
Sarnia Produce however,
began to shake off some rust
and forced play in the
offensive zone. In the 35th
minute, on a beautiful
clearance from Produce
defender Tony Disotto, the
Azzurri combined on a
perfect passing play which
sprung striker Alex
Tsaprailis free to place a
low drive in the back of the
SarCor net. SarCor led at
the half 2 - 1.
From the beginning whistle
of the second half, Sarnia
Produce seemed determined to
even the score adding a
forward to their formation.
It wasn't long until
mid-fielder Peter Tavabis
was taken down in the box
awarding Sarnia Produce a
penalty kick. Striker Alex
Tsaprailis stepped up and
made no mistake blasting the
shot into the left corner.
At this point the momentum
had completely turned with
Produce continuing
relentless pressure. Proving
why they were league
champions, the Azzurri
completed the dramatic
comeback and took the lead
in the 70th min. when
veteran Theo Tsaprailis
found his way around SarCor
defenders beating goalie
Mario DiCocco with a perfect
volley. From that point,
the Azzurri's stubborn
defense took over limiting
any scoring chances, sending
them to the second
consecutive play-off
championship game. They will
now face Tomlinson
Enterprises(who defeated
Esso) in the finals
scheduled for Thursday,
September 24th @ Norm Perry
Park with a KO of 8:30 p.m.
