Sarnia at London Scottish
For their 1st
game of three in a week; Sarnia City travelled
to face newly promoted London Scottish. Sarnia
City would get on the ‘board quickly but a
linesman’s flag would nullify the goal. Sarnia
City were undeterred and continued to attack the
Scottish defenders. Moments later City were
rewarded with an easy tap in from Lindsay
Postil. Although City would dominate the
remainder of the 1st half it was
Scottish who converted a direct free kick for
goal and at half the teams were even at one
each.
The 2nd
half was the same as the 1st, with
City dominating the run of the play but failing
to capitalize. While Scottish may have been
encouraged by their good fortune at remaining
even, Lauren Hayward dashed their hopes for a
draw with a late strike and City headed home
with their 1st win of the season.
Sarnia vs London
Marconi
London Marconi then
paid a visit to Sarnia. Nancy Barwitzki put City
ahead but Marconi would score twice before the
half to make it 2-1. A third goal in the 2nd
half seemed to give Marconi a comfortable
cushion but when Lauren Hayward made it 3-2 it
was a nervous final few minutes for Marconi
although they would hold on for the win.
Sarnia at London
Portuguese
City then hopped back in their cars for another
road trip to London to face the Portuguese.
Karen L’Heureux fired a shot to the far post to
put City out front. Minutes later L’Heureux hit
the framework but couldn’t get to the rebound.
Deep into the 2nd half the 1-0 lead
held up but Portuguese would fire two quick
strikes to put the hosts ahead with only minutes
to play. Sarnia City rose to the challenge when
Ali Gartley knotted the game at two each. City
continued to press for the winner pinning
Portuguese in their zone and buzzing around the
goal but time was not on City’s side and the
game ended in a draw.
