Sarnia Fury U14
SARNIA WINS ONE
AGAINST CHATHAM, AND LOSES A SHORTHANDED GAME TO
WALLACEBURG
Chatham game
at the Dante Club - Sarnia played at
their home field on July 13th, taking on the
Chatham Attack. Absent were Spencer Gorman,
Kyle McNeil, and Joshue Core, so Sarnia called
up a couple of AP players to fill the void.
Donning a Fury uniform were Eric Vasey and
Andrew Rail. Domination was their intent, and
indeed they did, throughout the entire match.
Nick Speed posted one more shutout, making it
his third of the season. The first half of the
game was scoreless, although Sarnia had a few
close opportunities from Kyle Mackin, Patrick
Gagliardi, and Anthony Fazzalari. During the
second half, Sarnia scored three times to end
the game at 3 - 0.
First to hit the
mark was Patrick Gagliardi, who had received a
pass from Trevor McEwan. Trevor took the ball
from a long pass sent by a defender, and fed it
to a waiting Patrick. One hard kick, and the
ball disappeared into the back of the netting.
The second goal started from a corner kick taken
by Tyler Vynckier. Corey Soden received the
ball, and with three Chatham players crowding
in, he kicked it back to Tyler. Tyler quickly
slammed it back into the front of the net, where
a scramble ensued with Sarnia maintaining
control. One of the Fury players cleared the
ball to the left of the Chatham net, where
Spencer Charlton was waiting and quickly found
his mark beyond the reach of the Chatham keeper
to bring the goals to two for Sarnia. The third
goal came from a combination of passes starting
from Daniel Cicchelli to Corey Soden, and ending
with Corey sending the ball to Daniel Vallee.
From out beyond the 18 yard box, Daniel managed
to score. Excellent game playing boys! Keep up
the good work.
Wallaceburg
Game at Suncor Park - Sarnia played a
shorthanded game on July 20th, with Spencer
Gorman away and Kyle McNeil on the injured
list. Spencer Charlton was nursing a sprained
ankle from the Owen Sound tournament the weekend
before, but still managed to play the game this
night. Even with the Wallaceburg team having a
full bench of relief players, Sarnia still
played a good game, controlling the ball and the
game for most of the two halves. As well as
challenging, the game was also quite
entertaining for the spectators, with plenty of
passing, scoring opportunities, and a number of
times where "headers" kept the ball in the air
for almost a minute while opposing sides used
their heads to gain control of the game. With
fewer players, Sarnia was feeling the heat and
the pressure, which allowed for two goals from
Wallaceburg in the first half. Sarnia quickly
regained control of the game, and with renewed
vigor maintained the level of play for the
entire second half. Corey Soden managed to
break the zero score for Sarnia with a header
into the Wallaceburg net. Corey's pass came
from Daniel Vallee. Final score was 2 - 1 for
Wallaceburg. Better luck next time Fury.
