SARNIA PLAYS IN THE KITCHENER
RECREATIONAL
TOURNAMENT ON THE AUGUST 22ND WEEKEND

Sarnia traveled to Kitchener for
a three game match up on Saturday August 22nd.
The final tally, in order of game play, was 0 -
2 with a loss for Sarnia, 3 - 1 with a win, 1 -
4 with a loss. The boys played well, despite
the miserable rain and cold. Here is a brief
recap of each game.
Game 1 saw the boys matched up
against the Rockwood FC. Sarnia worked hard,
which resulted in Nick Speed only having to work
to save eight shots on net for the entire game.
Two of those shots managed to slip past him, one
in the first half and one in the second.
Although the boys lost, the coaches were quite
impressed with the effort put forth by the team
as a unit. Rockwood ended up in second place
going into the Finals. Good try boys!

Game 2 had Sarnia matched up with
the FC Milton United. Sarnia was in control of
this game right from the start, and not once let
up on the opposition. Nick Speed saved five of
the six shots on net, again proving that the
defense was doing their job by keeping Milton's
opportunities low. Sarnia scored one goal in
the first half, with a shot from Spencer
Charlton. Spencer received a great pass from
Trevor McEwan, deeked out a few Milton players,
and sent the ball deep into the net past the
United's keeper. The first half ended with
Sarnia at one goal, and Milton at zero. The
second half was much like the first. Sarnia
dominated throughout, allowing Milton to score
once, but keeping them to their one goal for the
rest of the game. Spencer Charlton was able to
score again from a pass sent by Patrick
Gagliardi, and Trevor McEwan brought the score
to three goals with a pass from Anthony
Fazzalari. Final score was 3 - 1 for Sarnia.

Game 3 was against the Haldimand
Spirits, who ended up winning the tournament.
From the start Sarnia could see that Haldimand
was a formidable opponent. They played hard,
and made the Fury fight for every inch of grass
they could gain. Nick Speed was peppered with
shots from Haldimand, twenty one in all, and he
saved all but four high ones. Sarnia was quick,
but Haldimand was quicker for this game.
Perhaps the rain, the wet field, the third game
in one day, all had an effect on Sarnia. The
first half ended with a score of 2 - 1 for
Haldimand, but they came back and scored two
more unanswered goals in the second half to
secure the win, and hand Sarnia the loss. Nick
Vozza was the lone scorer for Sarnia, having
received a pass from Tyler Vynckier.
You can't win them all boys!
Better luck in next year's tournies!!!!!
