14th Annual
EARLYBIRD Tom Ogle Memorial Tournament
Bluewater Tournament
Sarnia, Ontario
May 9 - 10, 2009
The Sarnia Fury U-14
District Team decided to test their mettle
against formidable players by entering the
Bluewater Invitational Premier tournament on
Mother's Day weekend. Knowing the tourny was
"premier league" event, the team used the
opportunity to come together and work on
building a solid foundation for the rest of the
season, without the intent to win their
division. This year's roster has players from
at least 5 different 2008 season teams. They
played well, kept the scores close, and worked
together for some exciting "football" action.
The competition was tough, but the Fury held
their own and measured their success in their
ability to keep up with teams that play in a
higher division. The coaches switched players
and positions constantly, utilizing the
strengths of each individual to support the team
as a whole. Nick Speed played a spectacular
tournament in net, saving 27 of the 37 shots he
faced. His efforts helped Sarnia stay in each
game, and kept the scores low.

GAME 1 - saw the
Fury take on the Byron Blast. Sarnia was first
to score, with Corey Soden scoring off a pass
from Anthony Fazzalari. A second goal from
Patrick Gagliardi put Sarnia up two goals with
the half score at 2 - 0. Patrick's goal was a
deflection from the Byron goalie's save.
Patrick saw the ball coming and sent it past the
Blast's keeper with a head butt. During the
second half of the game, Byron was able to tie
the score. With less than two minutes left in
the game, Byron found a lucky spot to sink a
third ball past Nick Speed. Byron won the game
with a final tally of 3 - 2.

GAME 2 - was played against the Waterloo
Panthers. From the start Sarnia had Waterloo
running back and forth trying to keep the ball
in their control. Trevor McEwan took a pass fed
from Anthony Fazzalari and Nick Vozza, deaking
past the opposition to score. The Panthers were
able to score three goals in the first half to
end at 3 - 1 Waterloo, and one more in the
second to finish the game at 4 - 1. Sarnia was
outscored, but the level of play amongst the
teams was fairly even throughout the match.
GAME 3 - had the
Fury up against the NorthWest Storm. The Storm
scored first and the half ended at 1 - 0 Byron.
At one point, the Sarnia goalie was down and
Daniel Cicchelli rushed the net, deflecting the
ball and providing Nick Speed the chance to get
back into position. During the second half,
Anthony Fazzalari, Corey Soden, and Nick Vozza
worked together to get a pass to Patrick
Gagliardi. Patrick flew past the other team's
defense and scored for Sarnia. NorthWest scored
twice more to end the game at 3 - 1.
