U10's Just Miss out in NorWest London Tournament
Sarnia Spirit U10 travelled to London for the NorWest
tournament and met some tough opposition
in Chatham, NorWest Wolfpack, NorWest Pitbulls and Petrolia.
Here how are weekend went :
Spirit V Chatham (1 - 1
)
After coming off a midweek league loss to Chatham, Sarnia
were determined to take something from the opening
tournament game. The game started well with Sarah McCormick
and Carmen Handy battling hard in the middle of the park.
With 10 min in Chatham took the lead after a goal mouth
scramble was tapped in. Chatham pressed again and Daphine
Hibma made a couple of nice saves to keep Sarnia in it. 2nd
Half Sarnia looked the better team and managed to equalise
after Daphine Hibma' throw in found Mickayla Moses in space
at the edge of the box. With a solid strike the score was
now 1 - 1 and stayed that way as a final score.
Spirit V NorWest Wolfpack (3 - 0)
Sarnia looked to finish the day with a win and started well
when Carmen Handy made a solid midfield tackle and with a
long range shot cracked it off the bar. Skylr Melton then
made a nice run and cross to find Eden Platter in space and
was unluck with a good save from the goalie. Eden was then
involved with a nice pass through to Mickayla Moses who just
shot wide. Sarnia then opened the score from a nice run
through the middle from Sarah McCormick , laid it off to
Mickayla Moses to shot and score. Sarnia quickly added a
second after good hustle from Chloe Kennedy got a quick shot
in to score off the post.2nd half saw Mickayla Moses score
her second with a solo run, rounding the goalie and tapping
in. Morgan Waggs and Daphine Hibma collected the shutout and
were helped with fine defending from Alexa Eldridge and
Madisyn Mika.
Spirit V NorWest Pitbulls (2 - 6 )
Sarnia knew they were in tough with the tournament
favourites but started very well and pressured the home
team. Chances from Chloe Kennedy and Alisha Burnside were
unluck to shot wide past the goal. Sarnia then went 1 - 0
down from a hard shot that Morgan Waggs was unluck to keep
out. NorWest kept the pressure up and took a commanding 4 -
0 lead before Carmen Handy pulled 1 back for Sarnia before
half. London added 2 more in the second half but Sarnia
finished with a nice lob pass from Carmen Handy to Chloe
Kennedy who scored on a 1 bounce volley.

Spirit V Petrolia ( 3- 0 )
Sarnia knew the last game would come down to goal difference
with Chatham to advance to the final. Sarnia pressed really
hard and peppered Petrolia with chances. Mickayla Moses and
Chloe Kennedy both hitting the cross bar early. A nice 3
pass combination from Mickayla to Chloe then through to
Carmen Handy opened the scoring for Sarnia. 2nd half Sarnia
kept in going. Petrolia's goalie was making some great saves
to constantly deny Sarnia. Sarnia eventually added
another when Carmen's corner kick was converted by Mickayla
Moses, Sarnia didn't give up and Carmen Handy was denied by
the post before Chloe Kennedy scored to make it 3 - 0.Sarnia
defence again stayed solid with Alexa Eldridge, Madisyn Mika
and Morgan Waggs helping Daphine Hibma with the shutout.
* Due to Chatham beating NorWest Wolkpacks 5 - 1, Sarnia
missed out on the final on goal difference by 1 goal. *
Tournament record - 2 Wins 1 Tie 1 Loss
A great tournament was had by all, the girls played
excellent but unfortunately that little bit of luck was
against them. Way to go girls, you should all be proud!
