Spirit U10's
Compete in Walter Kitchner Woodstock Tournament
Sarnia Spirit U10 travelled to Woodstock recently and put in
a great effort to go undefeated in their Group, but were
just short in Qualifying after 3 tough games against
Waterloo, North London and Oakridge.

Sarnia V Waterloo
Sarnia got off bad start when Waterloo took the kick off and
scored with their opening play. After controlling possession
in the Midfield from Sarah McCormick and Sydney Caron,
Sarnia grew in confidence and began to move the ball well.
Sarnia soon leveled the game when Mofoluke Obiri made a nice
pass out of defence to Carmen Handy, Carmen laid a perfect
through ball to Chloe Kennedy who slotted a low hard shot
past the keeper.
Sarnia kept up the pressure with Skylr Melton putting the
ball just wide of the net and Chloe Kennedy again coming
close hitting the post.
Second half was more end to end and with 10 min to go Chloe
Kennedy added her second goal from a Morgan Waggs throw in
for Sarnia to take a 2 - 1 lead. Waterloo didn't give up.
After some nice saves from Daphine Hibma in net Waterloo
equalized with the last kick of the ball to finish the game
2- 2 tie.

Sarnia V North London
Sarnia's next game was against North London. After an epic
game against Waterloo, Sarnia found it tough against London.
In a game which Sarnia felt they could win, Sarnia found it
tough to create chances. Sarnia's defence of Alexa Eldridge,
Mofoluke Obiri, Madisyn Mika playing solid to prevent London
from scoring.
Sarnia finally got the go ahead goal when Mickayla Moses
broke through and shot hard past the goalie to take the
lead. London then pressed and managed to even the score.
With a couple of minutes to go Chloe Kennedy out paced the
London defence but her shot was saved by London's goalie.
Final score 1 - 1.

Sarnia V Oakridge
In a game that Sarnia had to win, they dominated from start
to finish. Sarnia got off to a great start with Mickayla
Moses scoring for Sarnia to take the lead. Sarah McCormick
added another with a great long range shot lobbing the
goalie to go 2 - 0 up. Sarnia now playing with confidence,
went 3 up with a nice run from Chloe Kennedy finding Julie
Blanchette in space to score. Julie again nearly added her
second but shot just wide of the post. Sarnia knowing they
needed goals, kept it up with a lovely through ball from
Sydney Caron found Chloe Kennedy who shot high into the net,
4- 0.
Sarah McCormick scored her second of the game with a solo
effort ending with a low hard shot and Carmen Handy was 1st
to react to a goal mouth scramble to score and finish the
game 6 - 0. Morgan Waggs and Daphine Himba recorded the
shutouts in net and were helped by solid defending
from Alexa Eldridge, Madisyn Mika and Mofolue Obiri.
A great weekend was had by all and the girls played
brilliant to record 2 ties and 1 win and a very competitive
tournament. |
