Sarnia Spirit U-11 vs.
London United AC Dragons
The Sarnia Spirit U-11 team
continued their journey as road warriors with their
third straight away game. This night they looked to slay
the London United AC Dragons and keep their undefeated
regular season in tack. Coaches Wardell and Barwitzki
had the girls prepared in Coach Mackay’s absence.
Sarnia wasted no time in
attacking the London side of the pitch. Kristin Parkes
crossed to Claire Vanden Eynde on the wing and the blast
found the top part of the net for a 1-0 Spirit lead 1
minute in.
Kelly Hodgins received the
ball and sprinted towards the London goal. A hard tackle
outside the 18 gave Sarnia a Free Kick. Parkes drilled a
shot the keeper couldn’t handle and Katie Barwitzki was
there to deposit the rebound and give Sarnia a 2-0 lead.
Parkes and Vanden Eynde
worked their magic again, a Parkes header over to
Kyleigh Arthur looked dangerous but the Spirit striker
couldn’t finish.
London tried to make a game
of it when they were rewarded a Free Kick outside the
Sarnia 18. A good save by Ashleigh Pettit in the Sarnia
wasn’t cleared but the rebound was punched wide.
A throw in to Kelly Hodgins
saw the striker tip the ball to an open Skylar Soininen.
Soininen broke in but couldn’t get a strong shot away.
Arthur picked up the ball but was fouled before she
could get the shot off. The Indirect Penalty was touched
by
Vanden Eynde and left for
Soininen but the hard drive sailed high and wide.
Sarnia held the lead at 2-0
at half.
Vanessa Bucci entered the
goal for the Spirit in the second half, allowing Pettit
the chance to play striker.
Pettit wasted no time
getting in the play when Vanessa Wardell found the
speedy strikers foot. A pass over to Kristy Hodgins but
the keeper was there to thwart the attempt.
Kelly Hodgins found Kristy
Hodgins who touched through to Barwitzki but the keeper
was there for the save. London attempted to penetrate
the Spirit zone but Nicole Bus was there to deny the
forward attack.
Parkes was dangerous again
for Sarnia and carried the ball into the London defense.
A pass wide to Pettit was crushed into the back of the
net and Sarnia was ahead comfortably at 3-0.
Sarnia would not let down
and London was unable to muster any kind of offence.
Sarnia again was rewarded a Free Kick and Parkes struck
a hard shot at the Dragon keeper. The ball could not be
controlled and Arthur was there to finish for a 4-0
Sarnia lead.
Sarnia continued to pressure
and Parkes scampered down the wind with a nice cross to
Sophie McKelvie but the left footed chance missed the
mark wide.
The match ended without
London getting a shot on net in the second half and the
Spirit walked away with a well-deserved 4-0 Victory.
The Spirit look to move up
the standings as they battle the division leading North
London Super Sonics, Monday night at Veterans field.
