The Sarnia Girls played their
final game of the season against Chatham on
Wednesday night. The Chatham team came out firing on
all cylinders and scored a quick goal before the
game was 5 minutes old. Sarnia then took over,
dominating the play through the rest of the first
half. The girls showed tremendous energy, with Flora
Richardson coming up with outstanding passes time
and time again in the offensive zone to set up her
teammates for several strong chances. When needed,
Abigail Zalewski and Elaine Larocque showed expertly
played defence, stopping Chatham attempts cold.

The visitors from Chatham were
looking to add to their lead at the beginning of the
second half, with great pressure, but were not able
to connect. Sarnia's Lauren Wilson displayed her
speed with many sideline runs and beautiful shots on
net, and Claudia Font and Naomi Parsons kept the
play advancing constantly, keeping Chatham on their
heels towards the end of the second half. Bea
Mendoza was a tower of power in the middle, clearing
away the play, and sending her mates on deep drives,
where the ball took a pinball bounce and Sarnia
evened up the score just prior to the game whistle
blowing. Final score 1-1.
At the end of the regular
season Sarnia earned top spot with a total of 8
wins, 3 losses and 1 tie for a total of 17 points.
Wallaceburg came in second going 7 - 5 - 0 for 14
points, Chatham followed on their heels in 3rd with
13 points going 6 - 4 - 1. Petrolia ended the
season with just 1 win (against Sarnia).
Sarnia and Petrolia will meet
for the final day matchup on Wednesday August 19 at
Veterans Field. Kick off is set for 6:30 pm.
