The Sarnia Girls came out very strong against Petrolia on
Wednesday evening, looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to that same
team a few weeks earlier.
Lauren Wilson arrived with a full head of steam, and made
it 1-0 Sarnia before everyone got settled into their chairs,
and followed up with another later in the first half.
Samantha Eisenbraun joined her team-mate in the first half
scoring parade, and Claudia Font, Shelby Bigras, Flora
Richardson, along with Samantha displayed some lovely
tic-tac-toe passing that must have warmed their coaches'
hearts. Petrolia had very few chances in the half, but when
called upon, Lisa Harris and Abigail Zalewski showed solid
defence, clearing the ball crisply.
With the 2nd half beginning 5-0, the Petrolia team seemed
to be a bit discouraged, and the Sarnia team did not let up.
Lauren Wilson potted another goal, and Elaine Larocque had a
few crafty steals on defence, showing some good manuvering
in tight quarters. Abigail Zalewski switched from her normal
defensive position to forward, and took the additional
freedom to heart, playing aggressively and registering a
couple of strong chances. Amy McCormick showed a strong kick
on goal, which the Petrolia goaltender unfortunately
misplayed, allowing it into the net and ending the game at
7-0 in favor of Sarnia.
