Sarnia Spirit U12B Girls: Sarnia vs. Wallaceburg June 10/09

The girls played a strong Wallaceburg side Wednesday evening. The first half was evenly played, with both sides running well, up and down the pitch.

Elaine Larocque and Amy McCormick showed great defence on several strong Wallaceburg attempts, and the half ended nil-nil. The second half began with Wallaceburg on the receiving end of a couple of lucky breaks in the middle of the field, which they quickly converted to goals. However, the girls did not let up, and a late 2nd half pressure burst by Sarnia, led by Naomi Parsons with several beautiful long runs and great shots on net, and Flora Richardson with a gorgeous centering pass, brought them close. Unfortunately, they could not beat the Wallaceburg keeper, and the game ended 2-0 in their favor.

Sarnia Spirit U12B Girls Soccer vs. Petrolia-June 15/09.

The girls found themselves in a tough battle with Petrolia Monday night. The first half was a defensive struggle, with both teams forcing the play to the sides. Shelby Bigras and Elaine Larocque showed great hustle and defence on several strong attempts, and Abigail Zalewski had a number of excellent defensive clearing passes, assisting her teammates on a few shots on goal. The first half ended nil-nil.

Just as the second half began, Sarnia had a defensive lapse on a Petrolia throw in, which allowed Petrolia a clear break on net and their first goal of the season. This seemed to energize Sarnia, with Bea Mendoza`s strong attempt on goal, and Sarnia maintained heavy pressure offensively throughout the remainder of the half. Lipine Parsons had several long runs through tight quarters in the middle, and Lauren Wilson amazed the crowd with an outstanding left-footed one time shot on net. Alas, the Petrolia keeper proved up to the challenge, and Petrolia stole the game 1-0 for their first win of the season.
