The Sarnia Girls ran into a
quick blast of bad luck in their game against Chatham on
Wednesday night, and it cost them the game. Sarnia
dominated play in the first half, with several strong
attempts on net by Modupe Obiri and Lauren Wilson. When
forced to defend, Kier Mackay proved strong through the
middle, thwarting many chances. However, Chatham found
some openings on the outside, and coupled with a few
throw in miscues, found themselves going into the first
half down 4-0.
In the second half, Sarnia
once again came out flying, and pressured Chatham into
several mistakes. One Sarnia attempt was barely
deflected by the Chatham keeper, and ended up going off
the crossbar. Lauren Wilson turned into a one-girl
wrecking crew, with multiple strong runs to the net,
scoring on one and being awarded a penalty kick, which
she converted into her second goal. In the end, though,
Chatham added one more goal on an unfortunate bounce and
came away with an improbable 5-2 win.
