Sarnia Spirit (3) vs. NorWest Fury (1)

Aug. 5, 2009

Sarnia travelled to London to meet with NorWest for their 3rd meeting this season.  Sarnia would strike first early in the 1st half with a penalty kick taken by Lilia Pasqual off of a NorWest foul.  Next goal was by Allison Deery who would tip one in out front of the net.

In the 2nd half, Danielle Graham would find the back of the net adding the third goal of the night.  Exceptional goal tending was had by Sydney Authier who was called up to play as Spirit’s goaltender Mackenzie Turner was out with an injury.  Late in the 2nd half NorWest would connect for their only goal of the night; Sarnia would take the win with a score of 3-1.

The Spirit girls are looking to extend their winning streak to 4 games as they meet up next in Middlesex August 11th against the Canstars.

Sarnia Spirit (3) vs. Middlesex United Canstars (1)

Aug. 11, 2009

The Sarnia Spirit girls travelled to Strathroy home of the Middlesex Canstars for their 3rd meeting of the season.  The Spirit girls came out strong with several scoring chances early but were not able to put one away until the 33 minute mark of the 1st half of play.  Spirit’s stopper, Amy Elliott, kicked a strong pass up the right side of the field that connected with Allison Deery who then performed a nice cross pass over to Alicia DaSilva scoring the first of the game.   Goal tending in the first half was performed by Lilia Pasqual who made some nice kicks keeping the ball in play and out of the Spirit’s net.

In the 2nd half of play around 26 minutes, Middlesex would take a penalty shot on a handball inside Sarnia’s 18-yrd box and sail a hard shot in the top corner over the head of Sarnia’s keeper.  Amy Elliott playing goalie for the 2nd half, had no chance in stopping this shot.  Two minutes later, Spirit would respond with their second of the night from a carry up the field by Teaghan Gagne who pushed the ball up front of the net to find Alicia DaSilva who would put this one away.

The Spirit girls continued to play a very good defensive 2nd half and in the last minute of play, Melissa Blair took a nice cross pass from her fellow forward DaSilva, and tipped the ball in the corner of the net.  Sarnia would come away with a 3-1 win.

Sarnia Spirit (1) vs. Southend United Fusion (0)

August 17, 2009

Sarnia travelled to London for their 3rd meeting with Southend United during league play.  This game would prove to be a very tough match and with only minutes left in the first half of play, Sarnia would go on the board first and end up scoring the only goal of the game.  Allison Deery crossed a nice ball to fellow forward Melissa Blair who would sail one into the back of the net.

Spirit’s goalkeeper, Mackenzie Turner would make some crucial saves in the 2nd half denying Southend of any scoring opportunities.  Unfortunately, late in the game Mackenzie would take a hard hit to the head by an attempted goal by a Fusion player charging to the net, and Turner would come up with a big save and earning a well-deserved shutout.
