Sarnia Spirit (2) vs. Southend United Fusion (0)
May 23, 2009
In their season home opener, Sarnia girls played a tough 1st
half with no scoring by either team until late in the half.
Lilia Pasqual placed a beautiful long ball sailing up over
the Southend defenders and Alicia DaSilva would chase it
down to score the first goal of the game at the 28-minute
marker.
The score would remain 1 – 0 until very late in the 2nd
half. The Spirit girls played a very good defensive half
when at the 38-minute marker; Melissa Blair would connect
with a well-placed corner kick from Alicia DaSilva. Blair
would find the left side of the net and put away the 2nd
of the game. Spirit came away with a 2-0 win. Mackenzie
Turner would earn her 2nd shutout of the season.
