The Sarnia Spirit U16 Girls win back to back Tournaments!
July 26 - 27, 2009
St. Thomas Soccerfest

On the last weekend of June the U16 Spirit came home with the
Championship title from the St. Thomas Soccerfest Tournament.
The Spirit went undefeated heading into the Championship game with wins
against Tecumseh (3 - 1), Tilsonburg (2 - 0), London Matrix (2 - 0).
In the Semi Final game the Spirit defeated LaSalle 2 - 0.
In the final game
Marlowe
Pecora scored very early against Dorchester in the championship to take
the lead 1-0. Dorchester came back and scored a very nice productive
goal to tie the game. The game remained tied throughout the 2nd
half and both overtime halves. The game went into a 5 player shootout.
Sarnia’s five shooters showed their talent when it came down to a 5
player shootout. Marlowe had a beautiful shot that caught the post and
went out. Danielle Girard, Samantha and Sydney Mellon and Jenna Prevost
all beat Dorchester’s goalie. Karly Dobbin made 2 saves on Dorchester
to give Sarnia Spirit the championship.
SARNIA SPIRIT U16 GIRLS WIN 1ST ROUND OF
ONTARIO CUP
July 4 -
5, 2009

The weekend following the Tournament win in St.
Thomas the Sarnia Spirit U16 Girls won the first
round of the Ontario Cup hosted by the Sarnia Girls
Soccer Association. This is a first for the Sarnia
Club as no Sarnia team has ever won a tournament
round in Sarnia.
In
the first game the Spirit went up against Waterloo
and earned their first of 3 shut out games with a
final score of 3 - 0. Scoring for Sarnia were
Morgan Breeze, Jenna Prevost and Sydney Mellon.
Games two and three saw the Spirit shut out Tecumseh
and London United with the same score of 2 - 0.
Karly Dobbin earned the shutout wins in all three
games.
Sydney Mellon scored both goals against Tecumseh and
a single against London. Rounding out the
scoring in the London match was Hannah Kennedy.
In
game four the Spirit took their only loss of the
weekend in a close match against Oakville that ended
with a final score of 2 - 1. Jenna Prevost
scored the lone goal for Sarnia.
In
this round robin round the Spirit came out on top
with 3 wins and 1 loss to earn them a spot in the
next Ontario Cup round that will be played on August
15th in London against the North London Galaxy.
This is a one game knock out. Coach Kevin Simmonds
says “I believe the Galaxy can be beaten and this is
our goal.”
