The Bluewater Lightning U-10 boys soccer team finished off their regular season schedule with 2 convincing wins against Chatham (5 – 1) and Sarnia Fury Red (5 - 1), leaving the team with a final record of 15 – 0 in LKYSL play.
On August 5 in Chatham, the Lightning were able to build a 4 – 0 lead in the first half. Tristan Haagsma scored the first goal of the game, breaking free from a Chatham defender just outside the box and drilling a hard low shot to the far corner. Tracer Mackay scored the next goal as he found a rebound in close to give the Lightning a 2 – 0 lead. This was followed by a goal from Levi Prinsen, who finished off a nice cross from the far corner by Lucas Ross. Josh Vale drilled home a high shot from just outside the box to complete the first half scoring. In the second half, Matthew Torti redirected a throw in from Chris Harwood over to Luke Ross, who hammered home the 5th Bluewater goal. At this point the boys seemed to relax on the lead and Chatham played hard the rest of the way, but were unable to generate many quality chances and Bluewater cruised to a 5 – 1 win.
Bluewater completed their regular season schedule on August 11 with a 5 – 1 win over the Sarnia Fury Red. Bluewater started a little slowly in this game until Lucas Ross was able to open the scoring on a shot from a sharp angle to give the Lightning the 1 – 0 lead. Shortly after, Joey Ferrera was able to gather a loose ball from outside the box and drill home a long shot to the top corner. Dante Fuoco finished off the scoring in the first half to give the Lightning a 3 – 0 lead at the half. Bluewater came out hard in the second half and were rewarded for their hard work as Tanner Van meenen gave Bluewater a 4 – 0 lead. Sarnia was able to score a goal to narrow the gap, but Bluewater answered with a late goal from Mitchell Neal and took the game by a final score of 5 – 1. Bluewater also welcomed back the strong field presence of Cameron Adam for this game as he took over the goal keeper duties for the second half of the game. |
