Bluewater Lightning U-10 Boys Soccer
The Bluewater Lightning have clinched a playoff berth in LKYSL
soccer action with 2 big wins against Sarnia Fury White (8-0) and
Chatham Attack (8-3).
On June 23 the Lightning were matched up with Sarnia Fury White,
scoring early and often, to take a 4 – 0 lead to the half. Lucas
Ross scored what turned out to be the game winner only about 1
minute into the first half. The Lightning continued to carry the
play the rest of the half, with Joey Ferrera, Levi Prinsen and
Mitchell Neal all chipping in with goals.
The second half continued much the same as the first half, with
strong defensive end play from Josh Vale, Chris Harwood, Tristan
Haagsma and Tracer Mackay limiting any sustained attack to the
Bluewater zone. Joey Ferrera, Levi Prinsen and Lucas Ross would all
score their 2nd goal of the game. Matthew Torti would
take a break from his goalkeeping duties in the 2nd half
and chip in with a goal as well, replaced by Tanner Van meenen, who
took on the keeper duties for the combined shutout. Final score
Bluewater 8, Sarnia Fury White 0.
On June 28, the Lightning made their first trip of the summer to
Chatham to take on the Attack in a match between 1st and
2nd place teams. Once again, Bluewater started strong as
Dante Fuoco finished off 2 nice solo efforts to the net to put
Bluewater up 2 - 0. The boys seemed to relax a little at this
point, as Chatham was able to answer to narrow the lead to 2 – 1.
The rest of the first half was closely played and the teams went to
the half with the Lightning maintaining their narrow 2 – 1
advantage.
In the second half, Bluewater took complete control of the play with
Lucas Ross scoring early to give the Lightning a 3 – 1 edge.
Bluewater would score 2 more quick goals as Tristan Haagsma made 2
strong runs to Chatham goal, slipping passes to Lucas Ross and then
to Dante Fuoco for easy tap in goals. Chris Harwood would then win
a battle for the ball in front of the Chatham goal and capitalize
for another goal. Tristan Haagsma and Mitchell Neal would seal the
win with 2 late goals as Bluewater cruised to an 8 – 3 win. Once
again, this win was anchored by strong play on the defensive end,
with Joey Ferrera and Josh Vale winning battles for the ball and
making several nice clearing attempts from the Sarnia end.
