The Bluewater Lightning picked up 2 more wins recently in LKYSL
soccer action against Petrolia (4 – 0) and Wallaceburg (7-1).
On June 9 the Lightning were matched up for their 2nd
contest of the year against Petrolia. This turned out to be a
tightly played game with Bluewater controlling most of the play
during the first half. Petrolia played a solid defensive game and
the game was scoreless at the half.
In the 2nd half, Bluewater continued to press the play
and finally, about midway through the half, Dante Fuoco was able to
break past the Petrolia defense to give Bluewater a 1 – 0 lead.
Shortly after, Lucas Ross was able to chip in a shot from close
range for a 2 – 0 lead. This was followed by another goal as
Tristan Haagsma took a hard shot from just outside the box that the
Petrolia keeper could not handle and Matthew Torti helped the ball
in for a 3 – 0 lead. Lucas Ross added another late goal for a final
score of 4 – 0. This game featured Matthew Torti playing outside
the goal for the first time this year. Levi Prinsen took over the
goal keeping duties for the 2nd half of the game.
On June 16, the Lightning scored early and often against
Wallaceburg, continuing with their strong team play. Dante Fuoco
got things rolling with the games first goal just moments in for a 1
– 0 lead. Shortly after, the Lightning were rewarded a penalty kick
which Josh Vale nicely converted for a 2 – 0 lead. This was
followed by a nice passing play from Tristan Haagsma to Dakota Moore
to Levi Prinsen for a 3 – 0 lead. The Lightning struck for another
goal by Mitchell Neal to take a 4 – 0 lead to the half. In the
second half, the Lightning continued to press the play. Wallaceburg
was awarded a penalty kick from a hand ball in the box which was
converted to narrow the gap to 4 – 1. Bluewater responded with 3
more goals, including a nice goal from Tracer Mackay tipped in from
a Lucas Ross corner kick and a beautiful long range shot from Dante
