Bluewater Thunder U11 boys
soccer team faced off against the Sarnia Fury U11 boys
team at Dante Club and the two teams did not disappoint
the large amount of fans who came out. It was a seesaw
battle from start to finish and the final score was 2-2.
Both teams started slowly as they were feeling each
other out, with very few chances early. The Fury got on
the board first when Cameron Primeau buried a hard shot
from outside the 18 yard box to give them the 1-0 lead.
The Thunder started pressing and were rewarded when
Matthew Paquette scored on a low shot to the bottom
corner, after having received a great pass from Chris
Dedecker. Both teams had some good scoring chances
before the end of the half, but were unable to bury
their chances and the half-time score was 1-1. The
second half saw both teams get numerous chances but were
turned away by both goalies. The Thunder took the 2-1
lead when Diego DaSilva scored from the top of the box
on a low shot to the bottom corner. The Fury started
pressing for the tying goal and time and time again were
thwarted by Stefan Mallozzi. The Fury finally came
through when the Fury's Cailean Schaller scored on a
long shot, which just caught the inside of the post, to
tie the game at 2-2. The skies opened up and the last
15 minutes were played in a steady rain, but neither
team could get the third goal and the game ended in a
2-2 tie,
Great effort from both teams.
On Saturday August 7th, the Bluewater Thunder U11 boys
soccer team faced off against Woodstock, at
Lambton College, in the third game of the afternoon and
came away with a 5-0 victory. The day was marked as "Bluewater Soccer
Club Family Day" and saw the Bluewater Blaze U14's play
Kitchener, followed by a Bluewater Alumni team facing
off against Markham in an Ontario Cup Masters quarter
final game and then closed out by the U11's against
Woodstock.
The boys seemed to be pumped from watching the Masters
Ontario Cup game and came out flying against
Woodstock. Bluewater's Chris Dedecker scored on a
breakaway after receiving a great pass from Matthew
Paquette to give Bluewater the 1-0 lead. Bluewater
totally dominated the first half but could not bury
their chances, as Matthew Paquette put two balls
inches wide of the post and Colin Yazdani also had a
great chance to give the Thunder the 2-0 lead. Late in
the first half, Nicolas DiScanno buried a shot into the
net after a Dedecker corner kick, to give the Thunder
the 2-0 lead going into half-time.
The second half started the way the first half ended,
with Bluewater dominating and it didn't take long for
the Thunder to go up 3-0. Michael Petrucci made a nice
pass to Paquette who did not miss this time and buried
his shot for the 3-0 lead. Daniel Cservik and Patrick
Spenner both had great chances but were denied. Dedecker
found Paquette, off a free kick, in the corner of the
box and again Paquette buried his chance to give the
Thunder a 4-0 lead. Bluewater's Nicholas Iacobelli and
Lukas Simic both made great passes and runs to set up
that free kick. The Thunder's Marcus Cossa scored an
awesome head ball into the corner after receiving a
lovely cross from Dedecker. The defence, lead by Diego
DaSilva, Zachary Matias, Bennett Vani and Burke Roszell,
played solid defence all game and were instrumental in
helping Stefan Mallozzi in getting his first shutout of
the season.
Bluewater's next game is a Challenge Cup game this
coming Saturday at Lambton College vs the London United
team.
