The Bluewater Thunder U11
boys soccer team competed in the Stratford Classic
Soccer tournament and even though they had a fairly good
tournament, they did not advance to the semi-final
round.
Bluewater faced off against the host team from Stratford
and came away with a disappointing 2-1 loss. Bluewater
dominated the 1st half and had numerous chances from
their strikers Matt Paquette and Nicholas Iacobelli but
were unable to beat the keeper. Stratford scored late in
the first half when an innocent looking cross hit a
Bluewater player and went in the net. Bluewater again
had some late chances with Chris Dedecker and Daniel
Cservik having some chances to tie the game before
half-time but were not sucessful. Stratford surprised
the Thunder early in the 2nd half when a long shot
caught Stefan Mallozzi off his line and it beat him high
to give Stratford the 2-0 lead. Bluewater's Paquette
finally got Bluewater on the gamesheet after he
converted on a Dedecker pass. Bluewater hemmed Stratford
in their end but shot after shot did not find the back
of the net and the final score was 2-1.
The second game saw the Thunder face off against the
Windsor Fury U11's and Bluewater came away on the wrong
end of a 3-0 score. Like the last game, the Thunder had
numerous chances in the first half with Matt Paquette,
Nicolas DiScanno, Lukas Simic, Colin Yazdani and Diego
DaSilva having good scoring chances. The Thunder's
Stefan Mallozzi made some point blank saves to keep the
score at 0-0 at half-time. Windsor came out very strong
to start the second half and were rewarded when their
striker scored on a low hard shot to the bottom corner
and then Windsor made it 2-0 when they scored off a
rebound from Mallozzi. The Thunder continued to press
and were caught in the offensive end when Windsor broke
down and scored on a long shot from outside the box to
make the final score 3-0.
The Thunder played their third game of the day against
local league rivals London United and lost 2-0. The
Bluewater players were determined to avenge an earlier
league loss to the United and started strong for the
third game in a row. After a questionable call outside
the box, the United scored on their free kick to give
them the 1-0 lead. They then caught the Thunder pressing
on a corner kick and came down on a 2 on 1 and scored to
give them a 2-0 lead. The Thunder kept pressing and had
some chances but could not beat their big keeper. The
second half seemed to be the story of the tournament for
the Thunder, lots of chances but no goals. The Thunders
defence consisting of Michael Petrucci, Marcus Cossa,
Burke Roszell, Zachary Matias and Bennett Vani kept
United off the scoresheet and the final score was 2-0. |
