The Bluewater Thunder U11
boys soccer team travelled to London to face the 1st
place Norwest Arsenal and came away with a 3-2 victory.
The Thunder came out strong
to start the game and kept the pressure on the Arsenal
in their end forcing the keeper into making some
brilliant saves. Bluewater got on the board when
Matthew Paquette scored after receiving a pass from
Diego DaSilva. Bluewater defenders Marcus Cossa,
Michael Petrucci, Burke Roszell, Zachary Matias and
Bennett Vani kept the powerful Arsenal forwards to the
outside and didn't allow them many opportunities on
goal. Bluewater kept maintaining pressure in the second
half and were rewarded when Nicholas Iacobelli scored on
a head ball after receiving a beautiful cross from
Nicolas DiScanno to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. Colin
Yazdani and Daniel Cservik were instrumental in setting
up Chris Dedecker for the Thunder's third goal of the
game to give Bluewater what seemed like a strong 3-0
lead but the Arsenal would not roll over and scored a
goal with approx. 10 minutes to play and followed up
with a second goal with 5 minutes to play. If not for
some timely saves by Stefan Mallozzi, the game may have
ended up tied, but instead Bluewater handed the Arsenal
their first loss of the season and also were the first
team to score on them in league play.
Next game for the Thunder
is Monday June 7th vs the Middlesex United Rockets at
SCITS field. |
