2010 Bluewater
Blaze
U14 Boys
LKDSL
The Bluewater Blaze 97's
played their first home game of the season vs
Wallaceburg at SCITS field on Thursday May 27/10. The
young Blaze team (all 13 year olds playing in a U-14
league) started the game well controlling the majority
of the play for the first 10 minutes or so fairly
easily. After several good opportunities on the
Wallaceburg goaltender it was Wallaceburg who scored the
first goal of the game about 12 minutes into the match
on a good run and nice finishing touch. Wallaceburg
scored again a few minutes later on a defensive
breakdown when two defenders seemed to miscommunicate
and let a Wallaceburg player in alone on goal almost
uncontested. Bluewater regained their poise and finished
the half strong but down 2-0. It was apparent throughout
the half that Wallaceburg had two players to watch
closely. They would continue to be a threat all game
long
Starting Blaze goalie Gage Riddoch was replaced by Owen
Gibson at half time due to a mild injury.
Despite giving up a couple of chances on goal early
Bluewater came out strong to start the second half.
Marco Difederico scored about 5 minutes in on a
beautiful crossing shot that found the back corner of
the net. Five minutes later it was Jakob Washington who
scored for Bluewater to tie the game 2-2 after tracking
down a crossing pass and finding the back of the net.
Bluewater continued to press and added the go ahead on a
great run by Zach Grennan who was able to run by the
Wallaceburg defense and showed a nice finish on a cross
ball from John Filia. Up 3 - 2 it appeared the Blaze had
things in hand however Wallaceburg had other ideas and
despite some good point blank saves by the Bluewater
keeper Wallaceburg scored 4 straight goals in the span
of 10 minutes and won the game 6-3. Though the loss was
deflating in some ways it was very encouraging to see
the quality of ball movement displayed by the young
97's. |
