Sarnia
Produce vs La Cantina
July 2, 2010
On a rare Friday night of
soccer, Sarnia Produce faced heated rivals La Cantina in
league play. An unusual short bench for Produce as they
only had two subs for the game. A very quick pace
dictated early action with both teams looking for the
primary advantage. Sarnia Produce struck first in the
25th min of play when Theo Tsaprailis was taken down in
the penalty area. A penalty kick was awarded and also
taken by Tsaprailis who blasted it into the centre of
the goal. It wasn't until the dying mins. of the half
when La Cantina equalized. The perfect cross ended
with a beautiful header by Cantina forward Rick Handy.
Both teams went into halftime tied 1 - 1.
The second half opened with
the same intensity. La Cantina took the lead in the 54th
min. of play when veteran striker Victor DaSilva
deflected a cross into the Produce goal. The goal seemed
to ignite the Azzurri who
from then on dominated play. In the 65th min. , not to
be denied ,Theo Tsaprailis placed a left footed blast
past a sprawling Cantina keeper. Minutes later Produce
took the lead and never looked back. On a corner kick,
it was Theo Tsaprailis again scoring his third of the
night when he headed the ball, which deflected off of
three Cantina defenders, into the top corner of the net.
The Azzurri continued pressuring and took a two goal
lead when midfielder Dean Troiani fired a rebound into
the top of the goal. Produce finished the scoring in
the late stages of the game when Peter Tavabis crossed
the ball into the penalty area which was kicked in
accidentally by a Cantina defender on an own goal.
Final Score: Sarnia Produce
Azzurri 5 - La Cantina 2 .
