Sarnia Produce Azzurri
Sarnia Men's Industrial Soccer League
Over 35
Thursday night June 17th
Sarnia
Produce met Tomlinson Enterprise in a battle for first
place. Both teams went into the game with undefeated
records. Tomlinson having a two point advantage as
Sarnia Produce had one draw. The opening kick-off found
Tomlinson short one man. The Azzurri looked to take
advantage and pressured most of the half. Produce
attacked frequently with numerous scoring opportunities.
Gus Tsaprailis sent a thundering shot off the crossbar
in the early minutes of play. The best chance for
scoring came when George Stoukas crossed the ball into
the box finding midfielder John Taraborrelli all alone
only to fire it over the net. Tomlinson played strong
defence keeping it scoreless at the half.
The second
half began with Tomlinson fielding a full squad. Produce
kept attacking and forcing most of the play in the
Tomlinson end. They were finally rewarded when Theo
Tsprailis sent a shot in on goal which rebounded to
Produce midfielder Peter Nassiokas who drove the ball
into the back of the net. The
Azzurri continued pressuring only to be denied by
Tomlinson keeper Duncan Tunstill. One goal was all that
was needed as Sarnia Produce took over first place in
the division. Produce keeper Olindo Desena posted the
shutout on a relatively quiet night.
Final score:
Sarnia Produce Azzurri 1 - Tomlinson Enterprise 0 .
