Sarnia City Alumni are competing in the London &
Area Women’s Soccer League Over 30 Division this
summer. After dropping their opener in London a few
weeks ago the team is now unbeaten in their last
four games and look to keep the winning ways rolling
this coming Sunday at Lambton College.
With only 11 players Sarnia City dropped a 3-1
decision to London White Eagles on the road. While
the women played well, they could not capitalize on
their opportunities and in the 2nd half
just ran out of gas.
Game 2 was a similar story; up 2-0 Sarnia City
played the 2nd half with eleven players
and came away with a 2-2 draw against London United.
Scoring for City was Nancy Barwitzki and Susan
Tomback.
For
game 3 Sarnia City had two subs! The women won
easily 7-0 against a depleted London Marconi
line-up. Leading the scoring was Michelle
Mommersteeg with the hat trick and Birgit Quinn had
the shut-out.
Next stop for the Alumni was up the lake to Goderich
with only a starting eleven. While the women
finished the game with only 9 healthy players,
Goderich was no match for City and won 8-0. This
time it was Mary Sue Knowles with the hat trick and
again Birgit Quinn had the shut out.
This past weekend, Sarnia City faced White Eagles
for a return engagement. In a game where everything
she touched turned to gold, Karen L’Heureux scored
an incredible 4 times. Lee Ann Bronzi rounded out
the scoring and Deb McClung had the shutout.
Sarnia City Alumni now face White Eagles once again
in Cup competition on Sunday July 18th
4pm kick off at Lambton College.
