A trip to
Wallaceburg saw the U-12 Girls Fury battle the
Wallaceburg Sting. Sarnia wasted no time in ascertaining
themselves when mid-fielder Vanessa Wardell spotted
forward Allee Riddoch who sent a nice pass to Samantha
Eisenbraun. Eisenbraun hit a one timer high over the
Wallaceburg keepers head and a minute in Sarnia had the
lead.
A scant 2 minutes later saw Wardell feed the ball to a
charging Shelby Bigras, Bigras shot bounced off the
keeper to Lauren Adam who finished for a 2-0 Fury lead.
Sarnia increased their lead to 3 when Cassy Gagliardi
found Kaila Goertz. Goertz shot deflected to Riddoch,
Riddoch's shot rebounded off the keeper and Cassie Forte
was there to pounce.
Alyx Wilcox kept the Sting off the board for the first
half between the pipes in the Sarnia net.
The second half start was similar to the first. Wardell
intercepted a Wallaceburg pass and sent a through ball
to Bigras. The shot was too hot to hang onto and
Gagliardi finished for a 4-0 Fury lead.
Wallaceburg tried to mount a comeback and were awarded a
penalty kick due to a hand ball in the box. Amy
McCormick playing goal now for the Fury was unable to
stop a high drive and we had the makings of a match.
Sarnia seemed inspired by Wallaceburg goal and continued
to pressure.
They were rewarded when Goertz stepped in front of a
goal kick and walked around the Sting defence to make
the score 5-1.
Sarnia looked to put the game away when Karleen Long was
first to the ball, found Forte who switched the play to
Alex Mulder. A hard drive by Mulder sailed just high.
A series of good passes rewarded the Fury with their
final tally. Hannah Atkinson spotted Riddoch who punched
the ball onto Adam for her second of the game and a
final score of 6-1.
The defensive efforts of Aleah Boersma, Grace McClure,
Lyndsey Osler and Nicole Bus were instrumental in the
win. |
