Sarnia Fury vs Bluewater
June 15, 2010
The Fury played
Bluewater at SCITS this past Tuesday evening.
The coaches were worried, as the Blaze scored
two quick goals against Sarnia within the first
few minutes of the game. Not to be outdone, the
Fury came back with a vengeance to win the game
with a score of 6 - 2 when the whistle blew.
Here are the highlights. Sarnia had the East
end goal during the first half, with the sun's
rays shining full force into the eyes of Andrew
Spenner. The Blaze easily took to their home
field, and using great passing skills managed to
score twice within minutes. For the next few
minutes, as the ball possession bounced between
both teams, the clock ticking away, there was no
goal for either side. The Fury coaches knew
that the Blaze's skills were improving, and
wondered how the match would play out... Not to
worry, for their boys came back to tie the game
by the half time whistle. Scoring for Sarnia
first was Riley Vanbarneveld. With a lot of
action in front of the Bluewater net, Riley
snuck in to grab a deflection, slamming the ball
high into the back of the net for the point.
Next to score was Spencer Gorman. Taking a pass
that started with Jacob Pullen sending the ball
towards Trevor McEwan, who in turn passed it to
Spencer, the score was tied! Patrick Lange and
Daniel Cicchelli played an outstanding half on
defence, and close to score were Riley Roberts
and Spencer Charlton.
During the second
half Spencer Charlton and Tyler Vynckier both
hit the metal frame of the Bluewater goal,
coming so close!! The Fury gained four more
points during the latter part of play, with two
goals from Trevor McEwan and one each for Riley
Roberts and Jacob Pullen. Jacob's goal was
first. Trevor McEwan scored the fourth of the
game by being close to the Blaze's net. Riley
Roberts kicked the ball towards the keeper, who
grabbed the ball, only to have it slip out of
his hands. Quickly, Trevor took it and sent it
past the keeper to score. The fifth goal was
due to Riley Robert's shot on net, which
resulted in a Blaze player accidentally knocking
it in. The sixth and final goal was from a
beautiful pass, again from Riley Roberts, high
and out front of the Blaze net. Trevor ran in,
headed the ball, and it went up and out of reach
of the Bluewater goalie. What a great game!
Way to go Fury!
