The
Sarnia Fury Girls U14 squad solidified
possession of first place by avenging
their only league loss with a decisive
victory over their cross-county
opponents. Accurate passing allowed the
visiting team to control play for most
of the game. Despite not scoring in the
first 30 minutes, Sarnia's attack was
relentless. The girls were rewarded in
the 31st minute following a corner kick
from the left side. Teighan Chate
contained the low centering pass and put
a weak shot on net that was cleared
right back to her. She made no mistake
on the second attempt and drilled the
ball to the short side to give Sarnia
the lead. Sarnia was relentless at
trying to add to the lead and was
rewarded in the 42nd minute on a goal
by Alex Allen who took a nice tap over
from Bea Mendoza.
The push continued after the break as
Allen added her second goal in the 47th
minute from a scramble in the
box following another corner kick. Sam
Lupi put the game well out of reach in
the 54th minute and Lepine Parsons added
another in the 58th minute on yet
another scramble in the box to put
Sarnia up 5 to nil. Naomi parsons scored
the prettiest goal of the game in the
80th minute when she ran hard with
the ball from just inside the opposition
half and made a beautiful cut back to
elude the defense before scoring on a
good drive from 12 yards out. Give the
Petrolia team credit for not giving up
as they took advantage of some line up
changes by Sarnia and drove the ball
deep into Sarnia's end. They scored in
the 89th minute on the right side on a
shot that went in off the Sarnia
keeper's hand to break the goose egg.
