Sarnia Spirit U11's won their second tournament of the season on the weekend in Ajax as they finished 1st in the group with 3 wins and beat Whitby 3 - 1 in the final. The girls had an excellent weekend playing some great soccer scoring 13 goals and conceding only 1 in 4 games.

Sarnia 2 V Whitby 0
Sarnia got off to a great start and took the lead a couple of minutes in. Daphine Mibma took a long free kick which found Alicia Burnside open on the right to shot low into the net. Sarnia settled quick and was passing well, Mickayla Moses and SydneyCaron worked a nice 1 - 2 pass for Sydney to send Chloe Kennedy through and her shot just wide left. Sarnia now kept up the pressure and Mickayla Moses made it 2 - 0 with a solo effort high into the top corner.

Second half was much the same, Sarnia moved the ball well, Sarah McCormick and Julie Blanchette consistently dominating the right side with passing. Sarnia nearly went 3 up when Mickayla Moses played a nice corner kick to Skylr Melton, her 1st time shot was hand balled in the box. Mickayla Moses stepped up for the penalty, but the shot went just over the bar. Sarnia continued to create chances with Julie Blanchette, Ashley Edgar and Chloe Kennedy all coming close, but it ended 2 - 0 Sarnia, good opening win. Morgan Wagg's and Daphine Hibma had the shutouts.

 Sarnia 3 v Ajax 0
Sarnia next played hosts Ajax. Once again Sarnia showed some great passing, Steph Maitland and Abby Zalewski were supporting well from defence and Daphine Hibma worked well with Madisyn Mika in the centre defence. Sarnia opened the scoring midway through the half with a great solo run from Mickayla Moses, breaking through the defence and shooting hit into the net.Ashley Edgar also showed some nice pace to get behind the defence but her shot was saved.

Second half saw Sarnia continue to press. Chloe Kennedy found space in the box, her shot was hand balled by the defence for a penalty. Chloe stepped up but her effort was saved by the goalie. Sarnia then made it 2 - 0 with a nice long throw in from Sarah McCormick which Chloe Kennedy ran on to and scored. With not long to go, Sydney Caron made it 3 after her shot was once again stopped with a hand hand ball in the box, penalty. Sydney stepped up and scored in the top left corner. Morgan Wagg's and Daphine Hibma again with the shutouts.

Sarnia 5 v Pickering 0
After the first 2 wins, Sarnia were guaranteed a sport in the final. They played the last group game against Pickering. Again Sarnia continued some nice 1 -2 passing and dominated play. Sarnia 1st took the lead after Sarah McCormick put a nice ball into the box and Chloe Kennedy scored a hard shot after a goal mouth scramble.Skylr Melton was causing alot of problems on the right wing. After a nice run, Skylr had a great shot come off the post and Alicia Burnside was there to score the rebound. Julie Blanchette then came close after shooting just wide from a post post pass from Skylr Melton and just before half Hannah Coy also came close but shot just over. In the second half Sarnia were playing some great soccer. They made it number 3 with a move that started at there own corner flag. Madisyn Mika started play wide to Steph Maitland who quickly played an inside pass to Sarah McCormick, Sarah then found the forward run through to Ashley Edgar who out paced the defence and tapped the ball past the goalie. Sarnia's next goal was again a nice build up from defence with Abby Zalewski playing a nice ball ti Mickayla Moses. Mickayla and Sarah McCormick worked a nice 1 - 2 pass and Mickayla scored from 20 yards out. Sarnia finished the game with one last goal at the end, when Hannah Coy found space on the left , cut inside and played a nice pass to Skylr Melton who scored to make it 5 - 0. 3 shutouts in a row for Morgan Wagg's and Daphine Hibma.

Final - Sarnia 3 v Whitby 1
Sarnia now found themselves in a replay with Whitby. Spirit took the game to Whitby from the start. They opened the scoring with a nice back post cross from Mickayla Moses found Alicia Burnside score a nice 1 time shot. Whitby struggled with Sarnia's pace as Chloe Kennedy broke through on the right and cut a nice pass back to Ashley Edgar to score and make it 2. Chloe again found space on the right and laid a pass to Mickayla Moses who's long shot rattled the crossbar and came down on the line. Similar to the England disallowed goal, but this one actually did hit the line. Just before half Mickayla then put in a nice corner kick which was handled in the box by Whitby. Madisyn Mika, who had been playing excllent in defence all weekend, stepped up to take the penalty but the shot went just over.

Second half Sarnia again came close with Chloe Kennedy crossing to Bianca Sapone who was also unluck with a shot just over. Whitby kept trying to press and and managed to pull one back from the penalty spot after and unfortunate hand ball by Morgan Wagg's in defence. With time running out Skylr Melton took a pass from Mickayla Moses and again hit the crossbar with the shot. Then with the last play Sarnia made sure of the win with a hard shot from Chloe Kennedy was saved and Skylr Melton was there to score from the rebound.
