Sarnia Spirit U11 Beat Chatham
Sarnia Spirit U11 played their last league game of the
season and finished with a 1 - 0 win against Chatham.
Sarnia seemed more determined after a disappointing loss
to Woodstock and nearly took an early lead when Mickayla
Moses sent a nice ball through to Chloe Kennedy who's
shot was saved . Sarnia pressed hard and looked in
control. 20 minutes and their pressure paid off as they
took the lead. Nice build up play with Mickayla Moses
passing inside the box to Skylr Melton, Skylr turned and
slipped a pass to Chloe Kennedy to shoot low into the
bottom corner. Sarnia nearly added another when Julie
Blanchette won the ball from a Chatham goal kick and ran
in on goal but her shot went just wide of the net.
Sarnia displayed some nice passing and
once again Mickayla Moses and Sydney Caron combined well
to set up Skylr Melton who just missed on net. Chatham
were still in it and had a great chance to equalize, but
were denied with a great save by Morgan Wagg's in net
for the 1st half. Sarnia's last chance of the half came
when the ball broke free to Mickayla Moses 25 yards out.
Her 1st time shot chipped the goalie but went inches
wide. 1 - 0 half.
Second half Sarnia were against a strong wind but Alexa
Eldridge, Madisyn Mika , Steph Maitland and Morgan
Wagg's managed to stop the Chatham attacks. Sarnia tried
to catch Chatham on the break and came close again when
Chloe Kennedy outpaced the defence down the right wing
and slipped a pass to Skylr Melton at the edge of the
box. Skylr found Mickayla Moses on the left side but her
hard shot drifted wide. Both teams worked hard
for the remaining 20 minutes but unable to penetrate
with a goal. Final score 1 - 0 Sarnia. Morgan Wagg and
Daphine Hibma had the shutouts for Sarnia.
This wrapped up Sarnia Spirit's league finishing 4th in
the London District league with 7 wins 9 losses and 2
ties.
Sarnia Spirit next play in the London Henderson
tournament 4th 5th September and then onto the League
Challenge Cup.
