Sarnia Spirit U11 Lose 2 -1 to Undefeated Byron

Sarnia hosted undefeated Byron on Monday night and came away with a narrow 2 - 1 loss.
Much of the early play was hard fought in the midfield. Mickayla Moses, Sydney Caron and Hannah Coy
battled hard against Byron who moved the ball well with their passing.

20 minutes in Byron took the lead with a high lob over Morgan Wagg's in the Sarnia net. Sarnia kept up the fight though, and their 1st good chance came from a good defencive pass through to Chloe Kennedy, but her shot well saved. Sarnia then kept up the pressure, Ashley Edgar found space down the right wing and cut in on goal, but once again the Byron goalie saved the shot. Sarnia's defence were then caught on the break as Byron
ran in on net but Alexa Eldridge playing sweeper for Sarnia managed to make a nice timed tackle to clear the danger.  Sarnia then equalised just before half. A well worked corner kick taken by Mickayla Moses, played a nice short pass to Sarah McCormick, Sarah played a quick 1 -2 back to Mickayla on the edge of the box, her low hard shot made it through a crowded box to score and bring Sarnia back into the game.

2nd half Sarnia were up against a very strong wind. The Sarnia defence of Madisyn Mika, Alexa Eldridge, Abby Zalewski and Morgan Wagg's were constantly under pressure, but stood strong against Byron's attacks. Daphine Hibma in net for the 2nd half also having to make some saves to keep Sarnia in it. Unfortunately, with 10 minutes to go Byron found the winning goal with a hard low shot from the edge of the box to win. Final 2 - 1 Byron.

Sarnia girls showed alot of Spirit against a very strong Byron team, and were very unluck not to take something from the game.

Sarnia next play away to Chatham, hoping to take over 3rd place in th division.
