Ultimate Suspects Survive Scare

Things were heating up in week 7 Sarnia Ultimate Frisbee league action as the winless Megalomaniacs played their game of the season against the Ultimate Suspects.  With the recently returned “Italian Stallion” Brian Scott making unbelievable catches from down field, the Megalos found themselves with a surprising 8-5 halftime lead.  They continued to lead the game all the way to a 13-11 score, but it was then that the Suspects found another gear.  After trailing almost the entire match, the Suspects used quick precise offensive plays to pull out the 16-14 victory, and move to 5-1 on the season.  The heartbreaker loss moves the Megalos to 0-7 on the season, and will look to crack the goose egg next week against Hungate’s Mom.

At the Lansdowne fields, it was the Short Bus making an upset attempt of their own.  Playing a strong defensive zone in the first half, Short Bus held the lead going into the half time break 8-7.  The shell-shocked Cookie Monsters threw a zone back at Short Bus in the second half, the tactic paid off as they cruised to the 15-9 triumph.

League leading and undefeated “Huck my Disc” were facing a tough challenge this week versus the 5-1 Huckstables.   Both Adam Shae and Vanessa Gillis had strong defensive efforts for the Huckstables.   However in the end, it was Kristy Russell coming out of nowhere with a huge vertical jump to catch the winning point.  Astonished opponent Vanessa Gillis commented “She was like Michael Jordan, it was insane, she must have pumped up her shoes before the game”.

In a momentum shifting game, the Red Army came out to a strong start against Hungate’s Mom on the efforts of Jeff Rathburn’s end zone cuts.  Hungate’s Mom were able to string a few points together through the middle of the game, however it was Tiffany “Hot Cakes” Clarke who gave the final blow as her Red Army team won the contest 15-11.

At Canatara, H2O dropped their third straight match against the Dumpsters 15-10.  The Dumpsters have now won 3 of their last 4 games, and are starting to prove themselves as contenders this year.

Note: The July 10th postponed match between Red Army and Ultimate Suspects has been counted as a forfeit against Red Army.
