The sun
was shining down on Lansdowne Park and conditions were
perfect for a night of competitive ultimate frisbee.
This week it was the match ups of identical regular
season records. The 0-2 Red Army took on the 0-2
Bulldogs at Lansdowne fields in what turned out to be a
tight match. Red Army built up a lead to 13-8 when the
Bulldogs mounted a startling comeback. After tying the
game at 13-13 they were a catch away from catching their
14th point, but it was dropped and so was the
game for the Bulldogs. Katie MacNamara had an
outstanding performance for the Bulldogs in their 15-13
loss.
In the
battle of the 1-1 teams, the Huckstables were playing
with no subs but jumped out to an early 8-4 lead versus
Delusions of Grandeur. But DoG used fresh legs to their
advantage, as they were able to make the long come back
and take the game 15-12.
For the
first time in their seven-year history, Hungate’s mom
unveiled their pink away jerseys. The boost in team
moral seemed to help them play along side a strong
Suspects team to an 8-6 halftime score. However the
Suspects then took the first four points of the second
half and never relinquished the lead winning 15-11.
Jody Brown and Tepa Wettergreen both had strong games
for the winning side.
In
Canatara Park, the 2-0 Banana Hammocks faced off against
the 2-0 Megalomaniacs. The Megalos were able to take a
6-3 advantage before the Bananas split open their zone
defence, and came from behind to finish the half at
8-6. The Bananas continued their momentum all the way
to a 14-11 lead and when all seemed lost for the Megalos,
they clawed back to within one. But the Bananas came
out on top thanks to some strong play by Alexis Smith.
Nathan Vosbourgh played well defensively shadowing the
Banana’s handlers. |
