Banana Hammocks Hang On To First
Some
giant clouds and some giant heads faced off this week
for a narcissistic match up of egos in Canatara between
the Megalomaniacs and Delusions of Grandeur. With
players from both sides firming believing they could
win, the match proved to be a close one. But when the
rain came the gloved handlers of D.o.G. seemed to grip
more points than their opponents, leading to a 15-12
win. Commendations were given to rookie Chris
Papanayotou of the Megalos for getting his first D-block
and first point on the season.
At
Lansdowne Park, the Suspects came out flying with a 8-0
lead into half time and did not look back finishing the
game with a final score of 15-0. This “skunker” of a
game being the first non-forfeit shutout in the Sarnia
league since 2004. An excellent game by all Suspects
with very impressive performances by Liz Entrop, Amy
Hogervorst, Eric Moulton and Brian Thorne.
The first-place Banana
Hammocks sported their new team jerseys for the first
time this season, but it did not appear to help as the
feisty Bulldogs came out strong taking the first 2
points of the game. The rest of the first half was
a close battle back and forth with the Bulldogs defence
putting a very tight squeeze on the Banana Hammocks to
prevent much lateral movement. Ultimately the Bulldogs
took a 8-7 lead into the half. The Banana Hammocks
changed their tactics in the 2nd half utilizing a zone
defence. The new defensive system caught the Bulldogs
by surprise, as they could not generate much offence
against it. The Banana Hammocks won the 2nd half of the
game by a score of 8-2 and won the game 15-10. It
appears as though the new dogs will have to learn some
old tricks to beat the defensive zone in the future.
Karen Vanderkant of the Banana Hammocks had a strong
game making a few impressive catches in the end zone.
Dave Geddes played very well for the Bulldogs, staying
very tight defence on the Banana Hammock Handler Tyler
Shaw. Also, Jamie Fraser was able to use his speed and
size to score key offensive points for the Bulldogs.
The Huckstables premiered
their new jerseys this week changing their team colour
from Biscuit to Marine. When questioned on why her team
must use such fancy colours, Huckstable Vanessa Gillis
replied “We’re a fancy team”. Well this reporter says
not fancy enough, as the pink Hungate’s Mom team
defeated them 15-11. |
