Sarnia Ultimate Kicks Off 2009 Pre-Season Games
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s a disc. The
Sarnia Ultimate Frisbee 2009 season kicked-off Thursday
night with four pre-season games. The Megalomaniacs
started out strong against Red Army scoring seven
consecutive points to start the game. Transfer player
Leslie Smith was able to stop the run as she put up the
first point for Red Army. Red Army stared a valiant
comeback, however they were no match for the speed,
agility, and sticky fingers of the Megalomaniacs who
took the victory 15-7. Megalomaniacs’ second year
player the Italian Stallion Brian Scott was the standout
player for the winning side.
The Suspects had a marathon to start their season off.
They went back and fourth against the Huckstables up
till half. The same trend continued until the end where
the Suspects came out with the 15-14 victory. Great
first games played the Suspects’ Wettergreens with a few
highlight plays by the ever so graceful Jason Powell.
The
Bulldogs is comprised of a few of last year’s champions
“Huck My Disc” with many rookies added on. Where this
team might lack in experience they made up for with
athleticism. Their opponents Hungate’s Mom were lacking
numbers and were eventually worn down by fast paced
game. The Bulldogs took the opener 15-9.
At
Canatara the wind was a big factor for the Banana
Hammocks and Team 8 (to be named at a later date). Only
one upwind point could be scored in the first half, and
the Banana Hammocks scored it. Their women found much
success in the end zone, proving to be the difference
maker in the Hammocks’ 15-12 win. |
