Four-Way Tie for 3rd Place
August 12, 2010
The Sarnia Ultimate Frisbee League took to the
fields this week for the penultimate round of
regular season games. Although the Suspects now
have a strangle hold on that 1st seeding
for the final tournament, there is still plenty to
be decided through the middle of the standings.
At Lansdowne, the 6-5 Megalomaniacs took on the 5-6
Hungate’s Mom in what turned into a marathon match.
Hungate’s were boosted by former team members Dan
Hackett and Michelle Keith on a visit from Calgary.
The game was close throughout with Hungate’s
narrowly staying ahead for most of the match using
their strong handling and speedy deep cuts.
Megalomaniacs had some great plays from Dr. I (Jason
Kimball) to hold them in the game all the way to a
“universe point” at 16-16. After the Megalos blew
their shot at the end zone, Hungate’s worked all the
way down without a turnover to Michelle Keith for
the win.
On the other side of the fields, the 6-5 Huckstables
had their hands full with the 5-6 Banana Hammocks.
The Huckstables came out strong with some great
plays from Paul McMurtrie. But perhaps their chose
of fuel and attire got the better of them, as the
Bananas were able to get the better of them, 15-12
final.
Pants Party took advantage of a Bulldogs team
missing a couple key members, winning 15-4 and
clinching 2nd place.
At Canatara, Red Army played a great game against
the league leading Suspects. Good speed displayed
by the young Red Army team, forced many early
turnovers for the Suspects. But a long first half
combined with the heat helped slow the Red Army down
in the second half, helping the Suspects take the
game 15-5. Red Army had numerous chances to score
but lack in experience hampered the young squad.
This is the team to lookout for in the coming
years. Good game for the suspect players Nolan
Cooper and Brandon Owen,
and also for Red Army’s Sasha
Irene.
With only one regular season game remaining, four
teams are in a deadlock for third place. Two
quarter final matches are already set for the final
tournament with 1st Suspects playing 8th
Red Army, and 2nd Pants Party playing 7th
Bulldogs.
