A Week of Upsets
Two season long streaks were
broken last Thursday night: The league leading Suspects
lost their first game, and the Red Army picked up their
first win (Albeit by default).
The Suspects who were
without their two main handlers, took on the
Megalomaniacs. The Suspects seemed unphased by the
missing players through the first half as they used a
full team effort to reach a 7-7 tie. At half time the
Megalos were issued the “Bayfest Red-card” as two
members left the game for a show, leaving the team with
6 players on the field, to battle the Suspects’ 7 . But
it was then that the Megalo’s Nathan Vosbourgh — the
team’s lone deep coverage — picked up his game and
blocked all long bombs coming his way. The Megalos
allowed only two further points, cruising to a 15-9
win.
Hungate’s Mom were able to
exact some revenge on the Banana Hammocks after losing
to them in the season opener. Hungate’s Mom took this
week’s match 15-12 due to the stand out play of Lisa
Jones and Lindsay Langstaff. The ladies had no subs and
were still able to provide their team with the offence
needed to get the job done. Tyler Shaw played well on
defence in a losing cause.
Pants Party squeaked out an
extra time victory for the second week in a row, this
time taking down the Huckstables. The Huckstables’ Jen
Thomm played well as the lone marker (or “fish”) in
their 1-3-2-1 zone, leading her team all the way to a
14-13 lead, and a game point situation. However Pants
Party held their nerves, and ran the table with the last
three points, winning 16-14.
The Red Army receives credit
for their first win of the season, as the Bulldogs were
unable to field the minimum amount of players. The game
is scored as a 15-0 win for Red Army, who split up their
players and had a fun scrimmage with the Bulldog players
that showed. |
