Week 1: Thursday May 13^th, 2010

The start of the Ultimate Frisbee league had the players all excited and wet on a stormy Thursday night.  Last year’s third place team the Banana Hammocks let it all hang out as they took down Hungate’s Mom.  Hungate’s began to frustrate the bananas by clawing at them and tying the game 6-6 before halftime.  The bananas smacked three 3 more points on to win the game 9-7 as the game was called on lightning.

The Bulldogs brought a new mascot to their season opener against Red Army.  The Bulldogs took the shortened game 9-6.  Young Evan Walsh of Red Army had a strong game in the losing cause, while Dara Emslie had a great defensive game for the Bulldogs.

A rematch of last year’s final saw the defending champs Megalomaniacs take on the Suspects.  The game did not live up to the hype as the Suspects displayed a strong throwing game, making short work of the Megalo defensive zone.  The game ended 13-3 in favour of the Suspects.

At Canatara Park Pants Party won their opener 15-11 against the Huckstables despite having no substitutes.  Adrianne Sutherland was the player of the game for the winning side making several down field catches.  Ian Wallis also deserves a huge mention as he played with an injury to prevent the Pants team from playing short handed all game.

Week 2: Thursday May 20^th, 2010

The Suspects looked to hold onto the league lead against the Huckstables in week 2 action.  They had to play shorthanded for the first half and still managed to stay ahead 8-6.  Reinforcements in the form of team captain Kevin Brown, arrived half helping swing momentum in their favour, finishing strong.  15-7 final score.

            The Megalomaniacs and the Bulldogs went the distance in their highly contested match.  The Meglos had some key contributions from their rookie players and narrowly held the lead for much of the second half.  But when it was all on the line at 16-16, the Bulldogs were able to keep their composure and score the deciding point.  Mel Sherlock had a great game for the winning side, scoring many key points and playing high energy all game.

            In other league action, Pants Party got their second win in as many games beating Hungate’s Mom 15-10.  Banana Hammocks also moved to two wins overcoming Red Army in a close match, 15-12.
