Three Sarnia Ladies competed on Sunday for the coveted Ontario Cup in the Women's Division. In the Cup Final it was Windsor Caboto Gold vs London City Lady Galaxy.   Devon Beach and Amanda Thompson are members of London City and Alison Gartley is a member of the Windsor Caboto team.

Both teams play in the Ontario Women's Soccer League (OWSL).  The  OWSL is the
highest women's soccer league in the province of Ontario and is affiliated with the Ontario Soccer Association, Canadian Soccer Association, and FIFA, the world governing body of soccer. From it's humble beginnings in 1975 it has grown to be the major body of women's soccer in the Province of Ontario.

The Windsor team plays in the premier Provincial South Division and lead their division with a total of 42 points.  Stats for the team are 12 wins - 2 ties with a total of 55 Goals for and 13 Goals against. The London City Lady Galaxy have dominated their South Region division with a total of 48 points with 16 wins. The team has gone undefeated and has not allowed a single league goal all season with a total of 115 goals for and 0 goals against.  Both teams won their League Division "Cup" finals.

In the Ontario Cup final both sides came out fighting but early on it was determined that London City was the dominant team as they went up 5 - 0 in the first 35 minutes of play.  The first goal came on a long kick from Susie Moussa.  The second goal followed minutes later when Claire Hooper made a low quick pass over to Cristina Bonasia who then knocked it in.  Five minutes later Bonasia scored her second goal on another pass taken out front and put it pass the goalkeeper.  Moussa scored goal #4 after she found the opening during a scramble out in front of the Windsor net.  The final goal of the half was scored by Devon Beach after she picked up the ball just over the midfield and "dangled" past several Cabota players and took it in for the goal.

In the second half London City continued to dominate with most of the play in the Windsor end. The Lady Galaxy went up 6 - 0 when Jennifer Siu blasted a rocket in from the left side.  Devon Beach scored her second goal when she broke through the defense and with excellent timing and patience slid it past the keeper.  Less than a minute later she scored her third goal of the day when she took a pass from Natalie McCabe and broke through again and put it in the same pattern as the previous goal.  The game went into injury time and London's Cristina Bonasia was out in the open and easily put in in for her third goal of the game.  The game ended with a final score of 9 - 0.
Sarnia's Amanda Thompson replaced Jess Kapitany in net in the second half and made several key saves in the shut out win.

Despite the loss the Windsor team played hard to the end and never gave up.  The Windsor team were missing several key University players including Alison's sister, Stephanie Gartley who attends Niagara University. Alison also competed in her second game of the day as she is a member of the Brock University team who were in Windsor on Saturday (won 2 - 0) and in London early Sunday against the Mustangs (won 1 - 0) then traveled to Vaughan for the Ontario Cup Final.

Devon Beach is a student at Northern and Amanda Thompson attends St. Christopher's and both are in grade 12.    This is Amanda's first Gold medal win in Ontario Cup.  This is Devon's 3rd Ontario Cup win and her third trip to the Nationals. Beach is going for win #3 at the National Level as both girls will travel with the London City Lady Galaxy to Halifax, Nova Scotia to represent Ontario in the National Club Championships from October 3 - 8.
