MISS. - Mississippi State junior forward Treena
Ferguson was name SEC Player of the Week this
afternoon, as announced by the league office.
Ferguson helped lead the Bulldogs (2-7-0, 1-1-0)
to a 1-1 record on the weekend, scoring six
points on three goals. Friday night in MSU’s 3-2
loss to Georgia, she scored the goal that put
MSU up 2-1. On Sunday, the Sarnia, Ontario,
Canada native |
scored twice, including the
match-winning goal, as State upset No. 8 Tennessee, 3-2.
“(Treena) has had a great year so far,” said MSU head coach
Neil Macdonald. “She’s been playing very consistently. Since
she came to Mississippi State she’s been developing; getting
stronger and better all the time. This is a great honor for
her and the team.”
Ferguson is the first Bulldog player to receive the honor
this year, and just the seventh player all-time. Emily
Meyers was the last to win the award, August 28th, 2005.
The Bulldogs close out the homestand this weekend, beginning
with a Friday night match versus LSU at 7:00 p.m. at the MSU
