Goalie Alicya Allen named OUA Rookie of the Year in Field Hockey

Brenyn Hodge named OUA Coach of the Year,

HAMILTON, Ont. - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is pleased to announce field hockey’s major award winners and all-stars, with Western earning four all-star recognitions along with two major awards. Toronto has a total of five players recognized as all-stars, three of which have been named to the first team, the most of any team honored. Guelph and Western each have four players represented in the all-star selections.  

The OUA Rookie of the Year is awarded to Alicya Allen (Point Edward, Ont.) of the Western Mustangs. Allen, the Mustang goalkeeper, is a proven strength in the net as she has allowed only one goal in eight games played this season. With an impressive 0.12 goals against average, Allen has helped her team to a 7-1 record while she was tending goal. Allen looks ahead to Western’s OUA playoff match-up versus Queen’s Friday in Ottawa.

The OUA Coach of the Year is awarded to Brenyn Hodge of Western following a fourth-place finish this season with a 7-5-2 record and a spot in the playoffs commencing Friday, October 26.

Cailie O’Hara (Oakville, Ont.) of the Varsity Blues is named OUA Player of the Year after guiding Toronto to a 12-1-1 record in their 2007 campaign for 37 points. Even with their 12-1-1 record, the Guelph Gryphons managed to maintain first place in the standings. O’Hara leads the OUA and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) in scoring with 23 goals and 11 assists in 14 games played this season. The fourth year forward and her team contest for the OUA championship this coming weekend with a spot secured in the semi-final.

Nora Draper (Ottawa, Ont.) of Carleton University is honored with the OUA Gail Wilson Award, given to a veteran student-athlete who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of field hockey.
