CALGARY, AB – Canada’s National
Women’s Under-18 Team has won the
silver medal at the 2008 IIHF World
Women’s Under-18 Championship after
dropping a 5-2 decision to the USA
in Saturday night’s gold medal game.
Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, ON) and
Jess Jones (Picton, ON) scored goals
for Canada, who were unable to
recover from a 4-0 second-period
deficit. Prevost also added an
assist, while Delayne Brian
(Winnipeg, MB) made 22 saves.

Natalie Spooner (Scarborough, ON), Marie-Philip
Poulin (Beauceville, QC) and Canadian captain
Lauriane Rougeau (Beaconsfield, QC) were named
Canada’s Top Three Players, while Rougeau (Top
Defenseman) and Poulin (Top Forward) also took home
IIHF Directorate awards.
The Czech Republic took the Bronze Medal with a 4 -2
win over Sweden. In the other games for 5th
spot it was Germany over Finland with a final 4 - 1
and in the final game for 7th spot it was
Switzerland defeating Russia with a final score of 4
- 1.
The 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship is
the first-ever world championship held at the
women’s Under-18 level, with eight teams – Canada,
the United States, Sweden, Finland, Germany,
Switzerland, Russia and the Czech Republic – taking
part in the six-day tournament from January 7-12 at
Father David Bauer Arena and Norma Bush Arena.
