Dan Lewis
Born: Sarnia,
Ontario
Dan was
born and raised in Sarnia where his athletic career started
in public school and continued on into University. In
Secondary school he attended OFSAA for soccer, golf, high
jump and track and field. His most notable record at St.
Clair in 1972 was for track and field in the category of
shot put, throwing a distance of 15.16m. Dan held that
record until 1997. At the age of 16, 17 & 18 Dan qualified
for three Canadian Junior Golf Champions. During Dan’s
University years Dan played golf for the University of
Windsor and Basketball in the Essex County Men’s Basketball
league.
In 1977 Dan started his teaching career that is ongoing
today. During his coaching career at Ridgetown, Chatham
Kent and John McGregor Secondary Schools he lead his
Basketball teams to 6 SWOSSAA championships, 5 OFSAA
Championships. Dan was award Coach of the Year Honours in
1985-86, 1990-91 and 1997 was awarded Coach of the Year and
OFSAA Leadership School Award. In 2005 Dan was awarded the
Pete Beach Award, the highest honour given to a teacher or
volunteer by the Ontario Federation of School Athletic
Association. Dan is married to Kim and has two daughters
Adele and Amy.
