The Huron Lakers girls Novice

tournament this last weekend.
This was their first tournament
of the year with many of the
players never playing
competitive basketball before.
Teams from Guelph, London,
Windsor, Chatham, Tecumseh, and
Sarnia Valhalla took part in the
tournament. The Lakers went 4-0
beating the Windsor Valiants and
Valhalla in pool play. The Semi-
final game had them in a nail
biter against Chatham
Wildcats.The Lakers came out on
top sending them to the gold
medal game against Guelph.
The stands were electric with an
deafening full house filled with
parents, friends and relatives.
of the players. The entire game
was close with either team being
within a couple of baskets of
each other. The Lakers found
themselves down by 4 with 1:00
left in regular time. The girls
showed incredible composure
staying calm and scoring two
baskets to tie it up. The second
basket was scored off an
inbounds play with 2 seconds
left on the clock. The girls
used this momentum to carry them
into overtime eventually winning
the game by 2 points. When the
final buzzer sounded players
from the Atom Valhalla and
Lakers teams as well as siblings
stormed the court to add to the
excitement of the win.
The Lakers next tournament will
be Feb 5th-7th in Guelph.
