The Sarnia Sting Hockey Club
announced that they will
accepting monetary donations at
Friday’s game to support the
Flint Water Crisis.
High levels of lead have plagued
Flint's municipal water supply
for at least a year, prompting
extensive emergency measures to
keep residents safe.
The Sarnia Sting and the Flint
Firebirds will play the first
game of a home-and-home between
the two clubs on Friday night at
the SSEC. The Sting are
encouraging fans to show their
support by bringing monetary
donations to Friday’s game.
All proceeds from Friday night
will be donated to the Red Cross
and used to support the City of
Flint in this time of crisis.
Because the Firebirds and the
City of Flint have received such
overwhelming support in the form
of water donations, it has been
suggested that cash donations
would be of greater value to the
cause.
In addition, the Sarnia Sting
will be donating a case of water
(or equal value) to the Red
Cross for each ticket sold at
the Box Office for Friday’s
game.
Sarnia Sting President, Bill
Abercrombie explains the
importance of the initiative.
“Just like everybody else, we’re
looking to show our support
during their time of need. As an
OHL member team, we feel that a
fundraiser is the least we could
do for our friends across the
border. The people of
Sarnia-Lambton have always
rallied around the initiatives
we have supported in the past,
and I don’t see this being any
different.”
