Mark Davis will
be returning as head coach of
the Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. B
hockey club next winter.
And team president Tom Knight
says the veteran bench boss will
have more say in the on-ice
product.
"Mark will be expanding his role
with the Legionnaires by taking
on the titles of director of
hockey operations and player
personnel,” Knight said.
Davis guided a youthful Sarnia
team to a sixth-place finish in
the nine-team Western Ontario
Hockey Conference this past
season. In the playoffs, the
Legionnaires surprised many
people by taking the third place
LaSalle Vipers to seven games
before bowing out in the first
round. Two of the contests went
into overtime.
Davis called his new duties
“awesome,” adding they will give
him a little more say in molding
the on-ice product. “I'll be
doing a lot of work during the
summer,” he said.
Sarnia will lose six players to
overage. But ecause Davis went
with 22 players last year, that
still leaves a solid core of 16
athletes who are eligible to
return (17 if you count midget
callup Nash Nienhuis, who saw
considerable action with the
club in post season contests).
