Bill Boland,
Vice President of Skate Canada and member of the National
Board of Directors was in Sarnia Wednesday to
announce that Sarnia/Lambton has
been selected to host the 2011 Adult Figure Skating
Championships on April 8 - 10, 2011 at the RBC Centre.
The Adult Figure Skating Championships are for skaters from
19 years and up. This invitational event provides
opportunities for adult skaters who have been skating since
their youth, to experience the challenge of a nationally
organized competition in every discipline including singles,
pairs, ice dance and synchronized skating.
This event will draw over 800
adults competing with approximate 60 Coaches/Team Leaders
and 40 officials.
The organizing committee comprised of Bluewater Region
Skating Council, Tourism Sarnia Lambton and the RBC Centre
is excited to have Sarnia Lambton hosting the event.
Tourism Sarnia Lambton
assisted the Bluewater Region Skating Council and the RBC in
the successful bid to host the event. Special Events &
Group Marketing Co-ordinator for Tourism Sarnia Lambton
Vicky Praill is excited that they won the bid. "Sports
Tourism is one of our community's greatest strengths and we
are extremely excited about the opportunity to welcome the
participants to Sarnia Lambton"
More than 100 volunteers will
be assisting with the event including Co-Chairs Donna
MacDonald, Bluewater Region Skating Council Competition
Chair and Sharon Lapier Bluewater Region Skating Council who
is looking forward to the great privilege of working with
Skate Canada.
