Sarnia:  Bill Boland, Vice President of Skate Canada and member of the National Board of Directors was in Sarnia Wednesday to announce that Sarnia/Lambton has been selected to host the 2011 Adult Figure Skating Championships on April 8 - 10, 2011 at the RBC Centre.

The Adult Figure Skating Championships are for skaters from 19 years and up.  This invitational event provides opportunities for adult skaters who have been skating since their youth, to experience the challenge of a nationally organized competition in every discipline including singles, pairs, ice dance and synchronized skating.

This event will draw over 800 adults competing with approximate 60 Coaches/Team Leaders and 40 officials.

The organizing committee comprised of Bluewater Region Skating Council, Tourism Sarnia Lambton and the RBC Centre is excited to have Sarnia Lambton hosting the event.

Tourism Sarnia Lambton assisted the Bluewater Region Skating Council and the RBC in the successful bid to host the event.  Special Events & Group Marketing Co-ordinator for Tourism Sarnia Lambton Vicky Praill is excited that they won the bid.  "Sports Tourism is one of our community's greatest strengths and we are extremely excited about the opportunity to welcome the participants to Sarnia Lambton"

More than 100 volunteers will be assisting with the event including Co-Chairs Donna MacDonald, Bluewater Region Skating Council Competition Chair and Sharon Lapier Bluewater Region Skating Council who is looking forward to the great privilege of working with Skate Canada.

More information regarding programs for schools, ticket prices and other information will be released at a later date.
