Michael Marinaro of the Point Edward Skating Club and his partner Margaret Purdy of the Watford Skating Club will be competing in the Junior Pair category this coming week at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships to be held at the Western Fair Grounds in London. On Tuesday, January 12, they will skate their short program and then on Thursday, January 14, they will skate their free program.

This year is a new format for the Canadian Championships. The Novice and Junior events will be held at the start of the week at the Western Fair grounds and the Senior events will be at the John Labatts Centre on the weekend.

Margaret and Michael recently competed at the combined Western and Eastern Challenge, a qualifying event for Nationals, held in Mississauga. They had personal best skates in their short and free programs and were able to capture the gold medal.

Michael will also be competing in the Junior Men category on Tuesday and Thursday at the Canadian Championships. Michael had recently won the gold medal at the Western Ontario Sectional Championships held in Sarnia at the RBC centre.

Michael is the son of Beverley and Albert Marinaro of Sarnia and the brother of Rob and Joe.  Margaret is the daughter of Lyn and Brad Purdy of Strathroy, Ontario and the sister of Cameron.
