World Junior Figure Skating Championships
Uithof in the Hague, Netherlands
March 8 - 14th
 

Junior Pairs Figure skaters Michael Marinaro of Sarnia and Margaret Purdy of Watford have had an outstanding year.  After competing in several Junior Pairs competitions that led up to the Canadian National Championship, where they were crowned the Canadian National Junior Pairs Champions.  After the Canadians they were informed that they were on their way to Hague Netherlands to compete at the 2010 World Junior Figure Skating Championships.


The "Junior Worlds" or "World Juniors" that they are commonly called are held annually in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of World Junior Champion.  In their first "Junior Worlds" Margaret and Michael placed 8th.  The young couple is very happy with their performance at their first Worlds competition as their goal was to place in the top 10.  Canada had a total of 3 pairs in the top ten. see complete results

 

On their return home the couple resume their daily routines: (Mon-Fri)

5:45 - wake up
6:30 - 8:00 on ice
8:20 - 1:00 school

1:00 - 3:00 on ice first arena
3:00 - 5:00 on ice travel to second arena
5:00 - 6:00 conditioning
6:00 - 6:30 off ice lift class
6:30 - home (eat)


Also three times during the week Michael lifts weights and once a week the couple take ball room dance lessons.

Up next is a series of ice dance shows including the Point Edward Skating Club "Ice Reflections 2010: My Favourite Things"
Show Times: Saturday April 3 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sunday April 4 at 2 p.m.  Tickets available at the arena now or on the day of the show.  They will also be performing at the annual Strathroy Competitive Skating Centre of Strathroy in April.

 

After the ice shows the pair will have a couple of weeks off then back to the ice as they look forward to next year's season.

Michael and Margaret are very appreciative of all the support of friends and fans and mostly the dedication and support of their families.

 

 

About
Michael is a member of the Point Edward skating club is the son of Beverley and Albert Marinaro of Sarnia and the brother of Rob and Joe.  Margaret's home club is Watford and she is the daughter of Lyn and Brad Purdy of Strathroy, Ontario and the sister of Cameron.  Throughout the year the pair trains at the Competitive Skating Centre of Strathroy and have been working very hard with coaches
Scott Rachuk and Alison Purkiss. Ms Purkiss will be traveling and coaching the pair while in the Netherlands.
